Performance of the week!.

The performance of the week goes to Holland for their annihilation of minnows San Marino in the Phillips Stadion - Eindhoven.

A superb performance that saw Robin Van Persie on the right end of a beating as he scored 4! of Holland's 11 that evening, there was also goals from Wesley sneijder ( 2 )  and another brace from Klass-Jan Huntelaar they were helped with strikes from Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt, Johnny Heitinga and Geo Wijnaldum.

The Oranje army was 3-0 up inside 17 minutes witn a superb pass from Mark Van Bommel setting up Van persie for his first with a nicely finished volley, the much talked about Wesley sneijder hit a second with a screamer from 20 yards out. With San Marino looking stunned Johnny Heitinga climbed highest to score a powerful header in the to corner.

After them 3 goals Holland seemed to take their foot off the gas and allowed San Marino to play football ending with a shot from Andy Selva from 25 yards going wide, The oranje army's fans had to wait until 5 minutes after the break to see Dirk kuyt tap one in after good work and a good pass from Huntelaar.

Holland's 5th came through Huntelaar with an assured finish, Robin Van Persie claimed his second after Kuyt put it on a plate with a pass across goal. It was RVP again who scored a simple finish from Sneijders assist with Holland running looking like they could score at any moment Huntelaar got his second and holland's 8th witha super assist from strootman, Van Persie got his 4th and final goal with an calm finish in a box full of players. Sneijder got his second after a powerful finish in the bottom corner to make it 10-0! the last goal of the game came to Geo Wijnaldum on his debut after being set by fellow substitute Maduro.

What a great performance by the Dutchmen who sit top of group E having won all of their games. Euro 2012 champions anybody? Let us know what you think!

DDG: David De Goalkeeper

Since the "white sheet" moment, where David De Gea arrived for his medical at Manchester United, everyone had their opinion of the Spanish U21 Goalkeeper, once of Athletico Madrid.
His height, perfect for a keeper, his age, perfect to mature, his price, inflated by potential.
Here's my view....well, after all I'm the worlds best 6 a-side goalkeeper.....NOT!

De Gea's rise to fame, came in 2009, when back up Athletico keeper Sergio Asenjo was away on International duty. He was cover for then first choice keeper Roberto, and as the story suggests, Roberto ended up getting injured and De Gea was given his league debut against Real Zaragoza. A high point in the Spaniards career, having come up from the Athletico youth system and B sides. David, struggled initially, giving away a penalty, but much like the Arsenal game, saved the resulting penalty, a star was born.

His Manchester United debut and first few games were also distort. Questions were asked as to how the Edin Dzeko, Shane Long, Theo Walcott goals went in, but an impressive clean sheet against Tottenham, and a string of saves vs Arsenal, particularly the penalty save, have strengthened the Reds view of the big Spaniard, who clearly still has a lot to learn. Some of which appears to be on the pitch, as new signing Phil Jones pointed out during the West Brom game, openly seeming to show David how to extend his elbows when claiming a high ball; a key technique to playing in the physically demanding Premier League.

This start was similar to another Man Utd No.1, Edwin Van Der Sar, who after doing some research I discovered he too had a shocker first game at Juventus in 1999. Having been bought up on possession football at Ajax, Edwin passed the ball out from a goal kick to tough nut defender, Paolo Montero, who could not believe his keeper had put him under such pressure, and simply knocked the ball into the stands, turning furiously to Van Der Sar and slating his decision. The branded cool Edwin, was then a nervous Dutch pancake! The Dutchman lost his confidence, he even consulted a therapist to get his self-belief back. Hard to imagine, having rarely put a foot wrong since that moment. However, at Juventus, Edwin was 28, so he still had a spell at Fulham, where he "remembered" how to goal keep, where as De Gea is only 20 and must learn fast and at the highest standard.

De Gea & Van Der Sar's first games were somewhat similar in hindsight, both had/still have to overcome a new country, new language, new tactics, new management, new team mates and new league.  The factors against De Gea's exposure to Man Utd is the fact United do not usually conceed many goals, and every goal that does go in, is magnified, particularly if points are dropped, which so far has not been the case. That's probably why Reds fans are asking the doubters to give the lad time to settle in. I don't think if United would have lost to City and West Brom, the fans would have been so kind to David, and called for back up keeper Anders Lindegaard to take over the reigns.

It's also fair to say David's body has not yet finished growing, although standing at 6ft 4", he definately needs to fill out a bit more to become the comanding presence a top team's goalkeeper needs to be traditionally.

Top class goalkeepers are made in two ways, exposure to top class games or nurtured through state of the art youth facilities. Examples of either could be, Casillas - who was carefully passed through the Real Madrid youth system, which is up there with the best of the best in the World. As well as Victor Valdes, who was exposed to Barcelona's first team at the deep end, having to master the sweeper keeper role, in order to continue with the slick passing style and attacking mentality Barca operate. De Gea has arguably elements of both of these methods, does that put him at an advantage or disadvantage? Only time will tell...

One thing is for sure, David De Gea is at Manchester United, and if there is a club out there that can make a potential into a superstar, it is at Old Trafford, with the guidance of the "Messiah" Sir Alex.

Man United fans will be hoping to see more assured saves such as this vs Arsenal last Sunday.

Sunday 28th Football Preview

Newcastle v Fulham

A tough game to call, due to the inconsistency of both clubs. Newcastle, who came from behind to beat Scunthorpe midweek, will be pleased to have overcome a battling game. A stunning solo effort from young Sammy Ameobi (brother of Shola) may earn himself a starting place from the left. Fulham have already played several Europa League Qualifying games, so should have the edge in terms of fitness. However, without the fire power in both teams it's difficult to imply real winner in this game.

Janak's Tip:
  • Draw @ 12/5

Tottenham v Manchester City

The first part of Super Sunday sees widely talked about Man City travel to White Heart Lane. Spurs will have the added bite of Scott Parker in the heart of their midfield, whilst City boast arch rivals of Spurs, Arsenal's Samir Nasri, who completed his big money move to Eastlands days ago. Mancini's main problem will be where and who to play in a formation that suits his team and will get the right result from the game. Spurs will be reliant on the pace of Bale and Lennon and the creativity of dutchman Van Der Vaart to break down the tight City defence. Spurs will be unable to field new signing Emmanuel Adebayor, who signed on loan from Manchester City this week.

Janak's Tips:
  • Dzeko 1st goal @ 13/2
  • Spurs win 2-1 @ 9/1

West Brom v Stoke

This game again is difficult to call. Two struggling teams in the Premier League so far, however Stoke did come away with a victory in their Europa League Qualifier on Thursday night. Goals from Upson, Whelan and two from Jones saw off FC Thun. Once again Jones should be a handful for the West Brom defence, and is a good bet to open the scoring tomorrow afternoon. West Brom, boyant from striker Peter Odemwingie signing a new contract, will want to get their home form off and running too. But face a tough challenge from Stoke's bullish tactics. Maybe the goals of new signing Shane Long will help them to get the 3 points, having scored against Man Utd and Chelsea in his last two games, impressive stuff from the ex-Reading man.

Janak's Tip:
  • Jones 1st goal @ 6/1

Manchester United v Arsenal

Sunday's game of the day will be live from Old Trafford at 3:30pm.
Arsenal, will be going into the game with high confidence having overcome Udinese in 2 legs to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League. However, the loss of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas in recent weeks have taken their toll on the Gunners, who looked less than impressive in their 2-0 loss against Liverpool. Man United however are in great form, with injuries to Vidic, Ferdinand, Valencia and Fletcher, outstanding performances from Jones, Cleverley, Young and Evans against Spurs will put United firm favourites for the game. United are 11/2 to repeat the 2-0 result to Arsenal that Liverpool did to them last weekend. Goals from Rooney, Nani and Van Persie are expected in this fixture, and the ability from new goalkeeper David De Gea to handle the long shots, which to his credit, he did well against Spurs.

Janak's Tips:
  • Man Utd Win 3-0 @ 9/1
  • Rooney to score & Man Utd to win @ 6/5
John's Tip:
  • Hernandez 1st goal @ 9/2

Saturday 27th Football Preview

Aston Villa v Wolves

As with all derby matches, form goes out of the window, and passion, spirit and pressure takes over. Bookies have made fair odds for this game, with Villa just shading the favourites backing. Goals from Darren Bent and Steven Fletcher will be key in this game, and if definitely worth a flutter at  13/2.

Janak's Tip:
  • Bent & Fletcher to both score anytime @ 13/2
  • Aston Villa win by 1 goal @5/2

Wigan v QPR

Both these teams have struggled in their opening fixtures, so this game should be a battle to get the 3 points. QPR will be spurred on from their 1-0 victory over Everton, and the recent addition of tough midfielder Joey Barton on a free from Newcastle. Wigan, on the other hand, have shown some good play but failed to finish chances, whilst leaking goals in defence.

Janak's Tips:
  • Both Teams to Score @ 5/6

Blackburn v Everton

Everton, who lost 1-0 to newly promoted QPR will go into this game with low moral. David Moyes's side have been less than impressive so far this season, and continue to start yet another Premier League season slowly. A good show in the League Cup midweek will surely do wonders for the teams attackers, as they netted 3 past Sheffield United. Blackburn also scored 3, against the other Sheffield side, Wednesday. David Goodwillie scoring his first goal for his new club. This game on paper doesn't sound the best with many fixtures in the recent past ending in draws.

Janak's Tips:
  • Draw @ 9/4

Chelsea v Norwich

Chelsea's battling win over West Bromich Albion last weekend will provide incentives for them to push on into the season now, especially with the creative addition of Juan Mata from Valencia. He will surely add the influential zest to the Stamford Bridge midfield. Newcomers Norwich City did well to get a point at Wigan and at Stoke, but fell down at the final hurdle of the two games by giving away sloppy goals. Perhaps the same shoddy defending against Chelsea will cause the flood gates to open and I can see this being a high scoring game, in favour of Chelsea.

Janak's Tips:
  • Chelsea to score 3+ goals @ evens
  • Chelsea -2 Handicap @ 7/4

Swansea v Sunderland

Play off winners Swansea face a tough test at home to Sunderland, who were unlucky to lose an even game at Newcastle last week. The Swans will be looking to capitalise on some sorry heads at Sunderland, who contrastingly will want to get their season off and running with 3 points. Manager Steve Bruce admitted in a press conference on Friday, that he expects to welcome back new club captain John O'Shea from injury, which will surely bolster their defence.
Janak's Tips:
  • Sunderland Win 2-1 @ 10/1

Liverpool v Bolton

Bolton Manager Owen Coyle will be pleased to be able to name centre half Gary Cahill in tomorrow's fixture against Liverpool, having laughed off a transfer offer of £6million from Arsenal mid-Friday afternoon. He will hope Cahill and co will be able to handle the deadly duo of Luiz Suarez and Andy Carroll, who seem to me thriving off each others play in recent weeks. Bolton themselves will be able to boast, after scoring 2 goals past title contenders Manchester City last weekend, which not many teams did last season, so they will have every chance of scoring past Liverpool tomorrow. However, the additions of Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing may be good enough to overcome Bolton, who will have to keep hold of the ball well at Anfield, in order to craft out some attacks of their own, mainly from the head of captain Kevin Davies.

Janak's Tips:
  • Draw HT/Liverpool FT@ 3/1

Barcelona v Porto Preview

Today's UEFA Super Cup Final sees Champions League winners Barcelona, face Europa League winners Porto.

Although, like most games that involve Barcelona, the money should go on the Catalans, this game has the potential to be the first major upset of the season. Porto fans can be buoyant, as Barcelona have not been at their flowing best as of yet, particularly after not playing any La Liga games so far this season due to the strikes in Spain. Furthermore, their recent Spanish Super Cup legs against arch rivals Real Madrid was not picture perfect. Barca, having eventually came out 5-4 aggregate winners, had struggled to defend as resolutely as you would expect the Champions League Final Winning team to defend like, letting in 4 poor goals by their standard.

Porto themselves haven't had it all their way. The high profile hijack of influential manager Andre Villas-Boas to Chelsea will obviously play a role in their style, format and tactics. As well as losing their top goalscorer from last season, Falcao. Who has been bought by Athletico Madrid, after the departure of Sergio Aguero to Man City earlier this month.

Should Barcelona win tonight's game, manager Pep Guardiola will be their most successful manager of all time, taking his trophy tally to 12.
Another interesting stat is that the Europa League winners have won the Super Cup on 8 of the last 13 occasions, whilst the Champions League winners have only won it 5 times since the format was changed to a single legged tie in 1998.

Super Cup 2nd Leg

Almost spot on for the Udinese v Arsenal game, proud of that!

Any game that involves Lionel Messi and Barcelona means one bet is pretty much a banker....

Janak's Tips:
  • Messi to score and Barcelona win @ 8/11
  • Barcelona win 3-0 @ 9/1
  • Barcelona win 4-0 @ 16/1

Champions league draw!

Today is the day that Europe's elite wait to find out who they will face in the hunt for club football most prized possession, the champions league. This is also an exiting time for the newcomers Manchester city and FC Viktoria plzen, where as the rest of teams try and take the trophy out of the hands of current champions FC Barcelona.

Group A - Bayern Munchen, Villarreal, Manchester City, Napoli.

Group B - Inter Milan, CSKA, Lille, Trabzonspor.

Group C - Manchester United, Benfica, Basel, Otelul.

Group D - Real Madrid, Lyon, Ajax, Zargreb.

Group E - Chelsea, Valencia, Leverkusen, Genk.

Group F - Arsenal, Marseille, Olympiacos, Dortmund.

Group G - FC Porto, Shakhtar, Zenit, APOEL.

Group H - Barcelona, AC Milan, BATE, Plzen.

Well there it is folks, the champions league draw has taken place.

Group A - Newcomers Manchester City and Napoli face German powerhouse Bayern Munchen and Spanish outfit Villarreal, but with City's financial clout and squad they are expected to finish in the top 2  with Bayern Munchen. But Villarreal and Napoli are good teams with fantastic individual players, Edison Cavani and Lavezzi can trouble any defence put in-front of them. Villarreal have Giuseppe Rossi up front who can score a magical goal, But one thinks that in this group they will finish bottom. 1st - Bayern. 2nd - City.

Group B - Inter Milan are favourites for this group with 2nd place up for grabs with French champions lille and Turkish team Trabzonspor, with CSKA Moscow no fools either with their astro-turf pitch at the Luzhniki stadium. 1st - Inter. 2nd - CSKA.

Group - C - Sir Alex Ferguson will be a happy man after this group was drawn His team face Portuguese team Benfica, Swiss champions FC Basel and newcomers Otelul Galati. United have bought well over the summer with Englishmen Phil Jones, Ashley Young joining the Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea. Benfica and Basel are expected to fight for second place with Otelul Galati finishing bottom in their first champion league outing. 1st - Man U. 2nd - Benfica.

Group D - Spanish giants Real Madrid will be expected to top group D, with 4 times winners Ajax and French team Lyon. This is possibly one of the hardest groups in this years draw as Madrid Lost to Lyon 2 seasons ago and Ajax proving they have pedigree in this years gone by. 1st - Madrid. 2nd - Lyon.

Group E - Premier league runners up Chelsea have also drawn a hard group as they are paired with German league runners up Leverkusen and Spanish team Valencia and Genk. Chelsea's desire to win this cometition has been futher proved with the additions of Juan Mata from, yes you guessed it Valencia and Romelu Lukaku from Anderlecht.  1st - Chelsea. 2nd - Leverkusen.

Group F - The group of death in my opinion as you cannot decide with all 4 teams, Arsenal have had problems in recent times with their 2 best players leaving for other European clubs, they will face a herculean task trying to get past German champions Dortmund and French team Marseille. Tough to call. 1st Dortmund. 2nd Arsenal.

Group G - FC Porto, Shakhtar and Zenit have proven they can win the Europa league with all 3 winning it in recent years. Apoel dont really have a chance do they? tough group difficult to call. 1st - Porto. 2nd Shakhtar.

Group H - Simple Barcelona and AC Milan will go through, no-one can touch barca at the moment and AC have too much about them to caught out by Bate and Plzen. 1st - Barca. 2nd AC Milan.

Tell us what you think!!.
